Uncle Milton Classic Ant Farm Live Ant Habitat

Uncle Milton Classic Ant Farm Live Ant Habitat

When Milton Levine and his brother-in-law, Joe, invented the ant farm, there was one thorny question: where to get the ants? The answer came in the form of Ken Gidney and his kids, who supplied ants for Uncle Milton for thirty years. Their methods were low-tech: they would find ant hills, dig with shovels, and gently nudge the teeny "pogonomyrex" harvester ants into a coffee can with a broom straw, one at a time. The little harvesters were then packaged and sent to the Uncle Milton company, who mailed them to consumers. We don't know whether a better method for obtaining ants has been determined by now, but you can still get the same familiar Uncle Milton Classic Ant Farm, which has been fascinating, entertaining, and educating kids and grown-ups for over 50 years. The flat plastic farm container has the "barn" cutouts you remember from ant farms you saw growing up, but of course the real action happens underground, where the worker ants bustle about digging, getting food, and exchanging essential ant gossip. The Classic Ant Farm is break-resistant and escape-proof, and has a tip-proof stand, so don't worry - there will be no mass insect jailbreak. Four "antports" and Antway connector tubing let you link this set to other Uncle Milton ant habitats, and clean tunneling sand is provided, as well as an Illustrated Ant Watcher's instructional guide. And of course, an order form is enclosed to get your ants, who will be mailed to you in good condition and ready to go. Recommended for ages 6 and up. WARNING: CHOKING HAZARD - Small parts. Not for children under 3 years.
